THE CREATIVE HABITS LAB: A structured hour to build a consistent creative morning routine

Who: Artists and non-artists alike who want to jump-start (or re-start) a consistent, daily habit that includes a creative practice, a creative project, or creative tools such as journaling, meditating, doodling, visualizing, etc.

What: A structured virtual accountability group that helps build a consistent creative routine

When7:30 - 8:30 am Monday through Thursday and 10:00 - 11:00 am on Fridays (eastern time)

The Creative Habits Lab meets (virtually) every weekday morning. We start the meeting with a brief check-in to share what activity we’ve each chosen for the day. We then mute our mics, leave our cameras on (mostly), and work on our activity simultaneously – working solo, but together to create just enough accountability and engagement to follow through on our intentions. Finally, we close the meeting with a debrief and celebration.

I hold the consistency and structure so you can more easily build your new routine. I will make sure we start and end on time and that everyone gets a chance to check-in and debrief. I will always be there to hold the space and to celebrate our daily progress and commitment.

And finally, I ask that everyone limit their activities to a creative practice, a creative project, or any activity that nurtures creativity or artistry.

F.A.Q.s

Why did you create the Creative Habits Lab and who is it for?

I created "the lab" after a short stint using an online virtual co-working platform. I tend to be an over-thinker. I struggle with rabbit holes as well as perfectionism and procrastination. I was finding that studio time was always ending up last on my todo list, many times for days. Virtual co-working helped a lot! So, I created my own version of it to help myself and others be consistent in the studio, their own personal projects, and/or their creative morning routines.

What is virtual co-working?

Virtual co-working is a structured, virtual meeting where participants work simultaneously to increase productivity and create a sense of camaraderie. The lab's structure encourages a gentle accountability through setting intentions at the beginning of the hour and debriefing as to what's working as we close the hour. Some additional benefits include better focus, increased mindfulness, and a sense of fulfillment from spending time on what's most important.

Do I have to be an artist to join?

No! Anyone can join, no matter your connection to art. I welcome anyone who wants to create time for creative habits, projects, or practices.

What kind of things do people work on?

Art-making, practicing an instrument, writing,  doodling, coloring, journaling, meditating, and/or anything that is part of a personal or creative project. To keep everyone in the spirit of making time for their projects, I ask that participants not work on "admin" type work or physical movement/exercise. If you are interested but unsure if your specific idea fits, feel free to reach out to me!

When are the sessions?

7:30 - 8:30 am Monday through Thursday and 10:00 - 11:00 am on Fridays (eastern time)

Do I have to join all the sessions?

No! That said, I recommend setting an intention as to how often you want to attend and why. This will help you determine if you are spending the optimal of time on your creative / personal work. And, I ask that you make every effort to come at the beginning for the check-in. But, if that's not possible on any given day, no worries! Better to join late than not at all. If this happens, just pop into the meeting, put your intentions in the chat (if you wish), and go about your session. We'll still celebrate with you at the end!

Is there a minimum monthly commitment?

No! Come and go as you wish!

Will I need to have my camera on and speak up in the group?

I like to hold a consistent structure. I find it's helpful to give everyone a chance to share during both the check-ins and debrief/celebration. We generally have cameras on for these. In additional, most people leave their cameras on for the work session. All that said, nothing is required! This is just what I find most helpful. I am an introvert, so I understand if you might be a little resistant at first. I promise the structure is super gentle and I strive to create a "no pressure" zone.

What's the difference between The Creative Habits Lab and Practically Dreaming?

The Creative Habits Lab is a daily, free offering. I hold the space through a consistent structure, but the participants are 100% self-directed as to how they use the time. It is offered in the spirit of the camaraderie of working side-by-side, creating together an intentional, mindfully creative, and gently accountable space.

Practically Dreaming is born from the same mindful, creative spirit as "the lab", but is a directed, participatory workshop. Each week, I introduce and teach specific tools and techniques that encourage new ways to cultivate creativity and growth as you pursue life's goals and challenges. Participation is $30 per session (or $100 for four sessions).

How much does it cost and what payment methods do you accept?

It's totally free!

Wait, what? Why is it free?

I find that running the lab has solved one of my biggest productivity challenges: getting to the studio first thing in the morning. It would be worth it to me for this reason alone. I also find that it gets me out of my comfort zone, provides a vehicle for connecting with others (both inside and outside of the lab), makes me feel like I'm making a positive difference, and expands my research on a topic which holds great interest for me - that is, how do people make progress on things that are most meaningful to them? Let's find out!

How do I sign up?

Email me with your interest and what you hope to accomplish with the lab. Then, I will add you to the meeting's guest list. You will then receive a calendar invite with a link to the virtual meeting room. For your convenience, the virtual meeting room link is also included below.
